mini greenhousesMini Greenhouses Need a Good Spring Cleaning

If you did not clean and sanitize your mini greenhouses in the fall, the time to do this is now! Even if you did disinfect your greenhouse last fall, it wouldn'’t hurt to do it again. The best defense against insects, bacteria, fungi and viruses is cleanliness. Remove everything from your greenhouse and clean the roof and walls inside and out.

Also, don't forget to clean all of your pots and shelves.

Get your Mini Greenhouses ready!

To clean greenhouse glass, use The Pill from Charley's Greenhouse Supplies with the Window Washing Kit for an easier time. Sprayaway Glass Cleaner is also a great product to make glass sparkle again.

To clean polycarbonate like TwinWall or TripleWall, nothing beats Brillianize. It cleans and polishes any hard, shiny, non-porous surface. It also is anti-static, so it helps repel dust. Use a soft cloth or sponge and rub in the same direction as the channels to avoid visibles cratches.

Take care of your tools

Tools are an investment that can be handed down for generations. Felco ToolSpray can be used on all metal parts of your gardening and workshop tools. The Felco Tool Sharpener is easy to use and fits in your pocket or apron. Use Bull Frog Lubricantto oil metal frames, door hinges and vents.

Planting in Mini Greenhouses

Examine your plant material before you put it back into the growing space. Do not try to rekindle a diseased or dying plant. They are a ready host for pests and viruses. It’s better in the long run to cut your loss. Don't forget to weed your mini greenhouse. The neater your greenhouse is, the healthier the plants' environment will be.

You may re-use pots and flats with success. Remove debris and dip in a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) and let air dry.

If you had a hint of disease in your containers or a plant that died for some unknown reason, do NOT reuse the soil. Empty your container out, sanitize, and start with fresh soil. Your plants will have a much higher success rate.

Take stock now of your supplies and equipment. Order what you will need, clean what you have, and plan your planting areas. A good spring cleaning of your mini greenhouse will get you off to a great start for the new season!
